National Thanksgiving Day 31 May 2009

SydneyCare was the “local missions” organisation that was honoured during Sydney Life Church missions month by Ps Tom Inglis at the National Thanksgiving Day service held at the Mosman Art Gallery on 31 May 2009. Mosman Council was represented by the attendance of Anne Connon, Deputy Mayor.

Geoffrey Magen SydneyCare - CEO, led the congregation in the reading of the National Thanksgiving Pledge and gave thanks for our federal, state & local governments, armed forces, police, emergency services, community agency partners, corporate sponsors who generously donate goods & services and the volunteers who serve the nation.

SydneyCare volunteers & founders, Geoffrey & Lorna Magen gave a ministry presentation entitled “Blessed to Serve”, outlining the community services provided by SydneyCare, responding to the needs of the local community particularly families & senior citizens and in national disasters including NSW Drought Relief, Victoria Bush Fires and Queensland Floods.

As a result of the current economic crisis the need for SydneyCare services to the community has increased significantly, with many families seeking help for the first time. An offering taken at the thanksgiving blessed SydneyCare with some $4,000 towards operational funding.
